The technology from McAfee SiteAdvisor complements and enhances McAfee Total Protection Service by warning users before they visit a dangerous Web site and helps to avoid online threats in real time.

What is safe searching?
McAfee’s safe searching helps users stay safe online by testing everything on the web and reporting its test results on its web site and through the integration with McAfee Total Protection Service. Safety ratings from McAfee are based on automated safety tests of Web sites and are enhanced with user feedback from our users and our own manual analysis. We do not accept payment from sites to be rated, so we have no conflict of interest. We also document our safety tests for every site we analyze.

How does safe searching work?
With the integrated SiteAdvisor safe searching McAfee Total Protection Service works with Internet Explorer to help users:

As you search or browse, McAfee warns users with color-coded safety buttons based on the security test results, for example,

• Safe: We tested the site and didn't find any significant problems.
• Caution: Our tests revealed some issues you should know about. (Example: a site tried to change our browser defaults, or sent a lot of "non-spammy" e-mail)
• Warning: Our tests revealed some serious issues that you'll want to carefully consider before using this site at all. (Example: The site sent us lots of spammy e-mail or bundled adware with a download).
